Uyi Effiom

Uyi Effiom, a dedicated environmental enthusiast and seasoned professional with eight years of experience in the nonprofit sector, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Calabar, Nigeria and is also a Mandela Washington Fellow from the University of California, Davis, with a focus on Public Management.
In her capacity as the Procurement and Logistics Manager and Project Associate at Stand Out For Environment Restoration (SOFER) Initiative in Nigeria, Uyi has orchestrated impactful programs. Notably, as the Craft Team Lead of the Fishing Net Gains Project, she empowered young girls and women in coastal communities through vocational and entrepreneurial skills training, fostering self-growth, personal finance, and environmental conservation advocacy.
She chaired the planning of The Marine Litter and The African Coast Conference: Collaborations For Sustainable Fisheries in Africa (maiden edition) in 2022. Her commitment extended to training over two hundred and eighty women in the Fishing Net Gains program, focusing on waste-to-wealth creation by repurposing discarded fishing gears into commercialized products.
Beyond her core roles, Uyi is an active volunteer with organizations such as SOFER Initiative, Global Affairs UC Davis, Plasticulture, and Urban Market Community Cleanup, showcasing her dedication to environmental advocacy. Her expertise spans capacity building, leadership development, entrepreneurial skills, and the successful implementation of projects.
Passionate about women’s empowerment, community development, and environmental sustainability, Uyi is determined to change perceptions and enhance civil society engagement in environmental awareness and socio-economic progress. In addition to her professional pursuits, Uyi is a seasoned chef, a puppy enthusiast, and an avid volunteer who cherishes the beauty of nature.
