Susan Sekirime

Susan Sekirime is a Senior Policy Advisor at the International Institute for Sustainable Development and currently leads their Climate Adaptation and Protected Areas Initiative in Africa.
Her work focuses on understanding the risks and opportunities that climate change and variability pose to developing countries and building the capacity of local communities, conservation managers, and regional and national policymakers to better manage those risks.
Susan’s career, which spans over a decade and across multiple continents, has mainly involved navigating complex regulatory environments, engaging with diverse stakeholders, from government agencies to community groups and industry leaders, and steering complex projects at the environment and development nexus.
Beyond her formal roles, she is an ardent advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion and believes that everyone, regardless of gender, age, race or social standing, deserves to be seen, heard, and included.
