Sheila Nana Akua Ashong

2021 Fellow

Sheila Ashong is a lover of children, nature and cultural expression.

She joined the Environmental Protection Agency of Ghana (EPA) after her degree in Natural Resource Management in 1999 and was involved mainly in Environmental Assessment until she completed her master’s degree in International Fisheries Management in Norway in 2003. She has served in various capacities across different platforms for community education and empowerment towards sustainable development, leading to her current role as Deputy Director for Natural Resources in the EPA.

After 18 years as an Environmental Management practitioner drawing different perspectives from UNESCO Biosphere Reserves across the world, she would like society to give more attention to women as women help develop, hold and transfer knowledge to the youth. This informed her enrollment in a PhD programme towards Integration of Traditional knowledge at the University of Cape Coast in 2020.
