Navonaeli Kaniki

Navonaeli is an environmental manager who has worked on various coastal and marine resource projects in Tanzania. She is the current Executive Director of Sea Sense, a Tanzanian non-governmental organisation that promotes the sustainable use of coastal and marine resources in Tanzania for the preservation of marine biodiversity and the health and prosperity of coastal communities. Sea Sense takes a grassroots approach to empowering local communities to better manage their coastal and marine resources based on ecosystem-based principles.

Her interest in marine conservation stems from the realisation that her children, like all children in Tanzania, may not have the right to a clean and healthy coastal environment or value the ecosystem services that sustain us, which prompted her to broaden her involvement in marine conservation.
