Belinda Low Mackey

2022 Fellow

Belinda Low Mackey was born and raised in Kenya. She is co-founder and executive director of the Grevy’s Zebra Trust, a Kenyan conservation organization working with pastoralist communities to increase the endangered Grevy’s zebra population in northern Kenya. When she co-founded the Trust in 2007, Belinda recognized that healthy land to support Grevy’s zebra, other wildlife and community livelihoods, was critical, and focused her energy on developing her organisation’s capacity to support resilience practices and help communities adapt to modern realities so that they can protect their resources for pastoralism and wildlife to thrive. She and her team are currently working on how to scale this effort. Belinda is a member of IUCN’s Equid Specialist Group and the African Conservation Leadership Network Committee.
