Sophie Kutegeka Mbabazi

Sophie works with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as the Chief of Party for the regional programme on Conserving Natural Capital and Enhancing Collaborative Management of Transboundary Resources (CONNECT), funded by USAID. She has until recently served as the Country Representative for IUCN in Uganda, with a wealth of experience in developing and implementing large-scale programmes on climate change, forestry, extractives and Integrated Water Resources Management. She gained a lot of experience in natural resource governance while at the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE), a policy research and advocacy think tank based in Uganda, where she served as a programme officer from 2003 – 2008. In 2009, she served as a capacity advancement fellow with Revenue Watch Institute undertaking research and advocacy to promote transparency and accountability in the emerging oil and gas sector, and its implications on the environment and the economy in Uganda. Sophie also serves on the East Africa Board for the Global Green Grants Fund (GGF), representing Uganda, as well as a board member for Civic Response for Environment and Development (CRED).
